New ACRA/CSANZ Guideline for Exercise and Physical Activity Prescription in Cardiac Rehabiliation

Leading experts from Australia, New Zealand and Europe in the fields of exercise, physical activity and cardiac rehabilitation have come together to create the first position paper of its kind for the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ). The paper is intended as a contemporary resource for cardiac rehabilitation providers in Australia and New Zealand, offering them valuable guidance in designing safe and effective exercise and physical activity programs for cardiac patients. Specifically, the aim is to summarise the assessment and prescription recommendations for aerobic exercise, resistance exercise and physical activity for all patients referred for secondary prevention of their recent cardiac event or a new diagnosis.

The new position paper has been endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association, Exercise and Sports Science Australia and the Australian Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation Association. ACRA members were also involved in the writing committee for this guidance.

Please find the guidance here and consider how you can use it in your own practice. ACRA will hold a webinar with the guidance authours later this year: https://www.heartlungcirc.org/article/S1443-9506(23)04214-2/fulltext
